Waiting On Wednesday - 6/4/14

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

So I've been desperately waiting since last August for this book to come out. No clue if I've used it as a WoW post before but I don't really care because this book comes out in two months! Two Months my lovely people! Okay...I know I'm the only excited here...but don't you ever get excited when your favorite books are coming our?!?! Well, I do so this week I'm waiting for Opposition (Lux #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout to come out! It's the last book in the series and I'm so excited that I really do need to calm down. I'm not going to be calm for awhile...Happy Reading!

Summary: Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.

She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all.

Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.

They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.

War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.

ARC Review: To Call Your Name by Catherine Green

Summary: Chloe gave up Seth to save the world…and his soul. Now all she has to do to become one of the People is to complete a Quest she doesn’t understand, to find a mythical object she can’t see, in a realm she can’t access.

Seth left town to escape the ghosts of his past and the love he can’t forget. But the one thing that will set him free is the only thing he can’t bring himself to do.

**This is Book #2 in the Life in the Palace series. You can find my review for the first book HERE which would help greatly in understanding what's going on if you haven't yet!!**

**I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review**

Initial Thoughts: This was actually a pretty good sequel! While I loved the first one a bit more, I still think this one was good and I enjoyed it a lot.

The Characters & Story: Chloe and Seth are a bit changed from the first book. Chloe broke up with Seth in the first book because she was killing him in the Palace by being with him (even though she never wanted to). After that Chloe goes to ask to join the People which if they are accepted have to go on a quest of sorts but really have no idea what they are doing. From Chloe's side of the story, it's about her finding out how to complete the quest, figure out why she dreams of Seth a lot AND why he still looks like he's dying in the dreams, and also just doing other stuff that all ties into the Palace or her friends - like being the camp kitchen everything with her friend Jen or shopping for baby clothes for example (don't worry there's way more than that and it isn't boring at all).

Seth's part of the story is much different. He really changed after the breakup and so much so that his best friend made him to on a trip to India (I wouldn't complain) which lasts for months. There he is just trying to get away from all the pain but guess who also is having the exact same dreams as Chloe? Coincidence? I think not! Well obviously the dreams are connected and very much real. Seth doesn't know/think they are real and so this leads to him later in to book going to this place for mediation and other stuff that has People there to try and get ride of them.

There were some new characters that showed up, like those Seth meets while on his trip. I thought that the humor that was in the first book was going to be lost in this one because Chloe and Seth were on opposite ends of the world, BUT there was albeit a little less.

"We hired some guy in a van to drive us up. Then starting at one freaking a.m. in the morning we walked up five thousand two hundred steps. In the case you get bored on the way, there's little shops selling souvenirs because the one thing you want after the first two thousand steps is more stuff to carry."

The Romance: Now since Seth and Chloe are worlds apart, there isn't much going on in this department, except for the dreams. Though for a little bit, while Chloe is at camp, some guy, Yair, a People, started to take an interest in her and Chloe kind of liked him and I was getting really mad because she was already taken even if she wasn't with, remember - soul mates. So I really ticked off for awhile at the characters until later when the whole situation is explained - it wasn't that Chloe liked him but that He (that's capitalized on purpose) wanted to let Chloe be normal amidst all the chaos - but I was still really mad!

End Thoughts: Oh I can't wait for the next book because I know it's going to be really good especially after that ending! I really hope everything works out for everyone in the end because ya know I love happily ever afters and I haven't gotten it yet! 4 stars.

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

ABOUT LUX: Consequences: Now available together for the first time, don't miss Opal and Origin, the third and fourth books in Jennifer L. Armentrout's bestselling Lux series. Also includes bonus content exclusive to the print edition! "A thrilling ride from start to finish," says RT Book Reviews.

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger...and they know it.

Monday Recs. - 6/2/14

Wow it's June already! Seriously, where does the time go?? Okay well I have no idea where it goes and I really have no idea what to recommend because I know what I like to read but I have no idea what you guys like! I mean do you want a YA or NA or contemporary or mystery or romance or Norse Mythology or paranormal or a pschological thriller recommendation! There are so many books to choose from I always have a hard time coming up with stuff! Oh!! I just came up with a really good series. Okay here we go...

This week's Monday Recommendation is the Throne of Glass Trilogy by Sarah J. Maas (I'm pretty sure I haven't used these books yet...). The third book isn't out yet but these books are just absolutely well written and the character and world building is amazing. And I mean, who doesn't love a book that has assassins and magic?!?

Summary: After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.

Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.(

My Review:

Initial Thoughts: This was a really cute, yet also hard story that was hilarious at times and sad at times but a good story nonetheless.

The Characters: Julia (Jules) is a really sweet, shy, and funny character who could also be outgoing if her friends convinced her too. I loved how she was understanding of people and she was really easy to connect to. She is a very levelheaded nineteen year old and that made her a really strong character that really added to the story. She also has this secret which I thought was also a great part of the story!

Nate is a great guy with some not so great moments. For instance, he's always like Jules but it took him awhile to own up to it, now there were reasons behind everything, but still!! Of course there are other parts to the story and overall, I thought Nate was an amazing person.

Livie and Piper. The first book is about Livie and while she isn't in this book too much, I still loved her because she has such a great personality and it's hard not too love her. Piper was so funny and I loved her very outgoing persona as well. Livie and Piper together = Jules not being shy = hilarious scenes!

The Story: Now that I think about it, it's kind of complex. It starts off as a story about two people who've always loved each other, yet never knew the other did, even though everyone around them could clearly see it. But it develops further than that because Jules and Nate do get together so after that, it's a lot about them just knowing each other further and learning to work together and get through difficult situations and it all made for a great story. I loved how well Nate and Jules were able to work together and handle themselves and really become better people through each other!

End Thoughts: Great story and characters. This book has really entertaining and funny but was also able to knock you down a few pegs when tough situations were brought up. You can read this book without having read the first one but the characters are all really great so I don't see why you should miss out on the first one either!! 4 stars.

Books I Bought...
This lovely series.

And these books.
The two on the each end were books my library was selling for 25 cents and the middle one was one I found at Target - (there was quite a few autographed books there and I was really surprised and happy! You never know what you'll find). I also have a thing for collecting signed books...

Books I Received For Review...
I asked for this one because it sounds exactly like a modern day retelling of Wuthering Heights. Here's to hoping it turns out to be better than the original!
