Blog Tour: Enchanted Heart by Mindy Ruiz

Summary: Cassandra Vera never ever breaks the rules.
She’s also had a nonexistent social life since her best friend moved to Vegas. Armed with a new set of resolutions, the promise of a hot date, and her adoptive parents out of town, Cassandra agrees an overnight road trip to Las Vegas to celebrate her birthday is the perfect way to ring in the New Year. After all, it's Vegas, the city where secrets are meant to stay hidden.  Little does Cassandra know the secrets of her own pastare buried there, as well.
In the shadows of the glitz and gaudy lights of Vegas lies a power struggle centuries old. One wrong step and Cassandra could destroy the delicate web of secrets.  Now an enemy she never knew existed is after her and the one boy who may be the missing piece to the puzzle —and her heart— is the one person she can’t afford to trust.

My Review:

Initial Thoughts: I love books with mythology - any kind - and this book was no different. It was Greek mythology was a twist and I was so impressed with it! There was a lot of action from the start and the story was executed very well.

The Characters & Story: Cassandra (Cassie) was a very sweet and caring person who could also be stubborn and outspoken when need be. The book starts off with her going to visit her friend in Vegas which also happens to be the city her parents have forbidden her to go to. But really wanting to see her friend goes without them knowing. Her first step (literally) into Vegas already causes weird things to happen to her and the city. A random earthquake? Nope, it was a Cassie-came-to-Vegas-earthquake. There was a reason she was supposed to listen to her parents, but I guess when it comes to paranormal stuff, characters just never see it coming! Anyways, things kind of just go downhill for Cassie. I mean the only good things that happens in the beginning at all is that she meets the fabulous A.J., everything else was not so good news.

Remember I said this book is Greek mythology with a twist? Well that twist is has to do with the fact that there are four royal families - hearts, club, diamonds, and spades - and they all run parts of Vegas as well as each house has a unique gift. The whole set up is like a deck of cards. Cassie learns this basic information in the beginning after going to a club with her friends (and meeting A.J. in the process!). At the club people try to take her and A.J. helps her escape and brings her to his grandfather Midas - yes, the guy with the golden touch - who caused many, many problems. It takes awhile for Cassie to learn and discover everything that is going on in the city plus all the many problems and conflicts that arise. But I must say that the highlight of the story, besides the mythology and the story, is A.J. (read next section!).

The Romance: So A.J. is a sweet and protective guy and those kinds are the best! How he interacted with Cassie and vice versa was just sweet and genuine! They were so funny and adorable. I just loved reading about them and seeing them fall in love even with everything going on and all the sacrifices they were willing to make for others and each other.

End Thoughts: This was a great book. I'm so excited to see how it will continue because I think the next one will be even better and this book was great to start off with! The characters were great and so was the concept. There were times the world building was confusing but everything worked out in the end. 4.5 stars!
