Blog Tour: Before You by Amber Hart

Summary: Some say love is deadly. Some say love is beautiful. I say it is both.

Faith Watters spent her junior year traveling the world, studying in exquisite places, before returning to Oviedo High School. From the outside her life is picture-perfect. Captain of the dance team. Popular. Happy. Too bad it’s all a lie.

It will haunt me. It will claim me. It will shatter me. And I don't care.

Eighteen-year-old Diego Alvarez hates his new life in the States, but staying in Cuba is not an option. Covered in tattoos and scars, Diego doesn't stand a chance of fitting in. Nor does he want to. His only concern is staying hidden from his past—a past, which if it were to surface, would cost him everything. Including his life.

At Oviedo High School, it seems that Faith Watters and Diego Alvarez do not belong together. But fate is as tricky as it is lovely. Freedom with no restraint is what they long for. What they get is something different entirely.

Love—it will ruin you and save you, both.

My Review:

Initial Thoughts: Three letters I never want to see in a book again - DOA. I'm serious. This book just pulled me in and then destroyed me. It was sweet, funny, honest, and an all around amazing book.

The Characters: There was some serious character growth in this book.. Faith changed so much throughout the book and it was all for the better. Faith was not a perfect person at all. She was flawed and had made a pretty good fake of herself thinking she had to be perfect for everyone. She thought that everyone was always judging her so she had to be perfect. This is not a case of a pretty, mean, popular girl turning into a selfless, goodhearted person. This is about a girl who made mistakes and because of them thought she became a different person so she wouldn't ruin her family's reputation or how others looked at her.

Faith's best friend Melissa is the only person, besides her family, that knows why Faith is the way she is. Melissa is an great friend to Faith. She is funny, caring, and isn't afraid to speak her mind. She is always trying to get her to be who she always was but doesn't have much luck with that until Diego steps into the story.

Diego won my heart. What was him being closed-off, for good reasons, came off as him looking like a jerk. But he wasn't! He was sweet and protective but also not afraid to go after something he wanted. He loved his family and worked hard for them.

"Melissa is beaming, seven thousand rays of approval. It's almost blinding."

Yeah, I approved of him too! Of course he had flaws, but so did Faith and everyone else and that made the characters seem completely real.

The Story: Faith meets Diego on the first day of school as his helper. He doesn't want the help from her and she doesn't back down from a challenge. Eventually Diego notices that Faith isn't who she looks to be and he wants to find out why she's hiding from the world.

"'But between you and me, I don't think it will last. She's not really into him. It's just part of her image, you see.' I am absolutely aware that my mouth is hanging open."

They both start to let each other in as they learn more about each other and and the process fall in love. There are so many obstacles in the way though. Parts are because Faith has a hard time letting go of her fake self which was understandable but only to a point. And other parts are because of Diego's part that just won't leave him alone ever! So of course, it takes awhile to get to the point where things are getting better for everyone. Everyone really was doing better, Faith was becoming her "true" self and her relationship with Diego was so much better because of it. But you must always remember, authors can be very cruel... and that is all I can say...

End Thoughts: I really enjoyed and loved this book. I loved that the characters were flawed and learned to work through all their flaws and pasts and challenges and become better people from it. The ending I never saw coming in so many ways. Since I can't say anything, I will say that the tears were completely worth it. 5 stars for Before You!
