Review: Mindspeak by Heather Sunseri

Summary: She was created for a purpose so revolutionary, someone was willing to kill for it.

Seventeen-year-old Lexi Matthews keeps two secrets from her elite boarding school classmates—she’s the daughter of a famous and controversial geneticist, and she can influence people’s thoughts.

But after new student Jack DeWeese heals her broken arm with an anything-but-simple touch, he forces Lexi to face a new reality—her abilities reach much further than speaking to the minds of others.

After Lexi’s father goes missing and she receives threatening emails, she can’t decide whether to fall into Jack’s arms or run and hide.

As Lexi seeks answers to what she and Jack are, she discovers a truth more unsettling than anything her science books can teach. And letting Jack into her life of secrets is not only a threat to her very existence, but it just might break her heart wide open.

Initial Thoughts: What a nice, fun, sweet, action-packed, and absolutely amazing book to read! Mindspeak was a great book that I had a lot of fun reading and getting swept up with everything happening in it!

The Characters: Lexi is seventeen and has always known she was different because she could control people with her thoughts though not without consequences. She'd always get nosebleeds and headaches from using her abilities. I liked her as a character and she acted  how I would probably act in her situations. She freaks out a lot and does cry quite a bit but it's understandable because 1. her dad was murdered because of his work, then 2. having someone else trying to kill her as well. She doesn't know who to trust and also she finds out she is a genetically altered and cloned human and not the only one- it's a lot to take in. Jake is my favorite I think in the book though! He's so sweet and protective of Lexi that he'll do anything to keep her safe, plus he's a genetically altered and cloned human as well!! There's also Seth who pops up throughout the book and is very secretive and knows what's going on with everything practically (he also happens to be related to Lexi).

The Story: Lexi goes to this school that is pretty secret and basically hides the kids of famous people so that nothing happens to them. A lot of stuff happens right off as mentioned above with her dad dying and such. Her father is a geneticist that had worked with Jack's dad and some others back before she was even born. Lexi has never met Jack until he starts the senior year at the school with her. And pretty soon after that she finds out he is like her and he has the ability to heal people's wounds. Then basically after that, Lexi learns to trust Jack (who she should never have doubted because he's awesome, though I'll admit I was a bit hesitant at first) and then they are trying to find her dad's journals that have all the answers to what is happening around them and also trying to find out who's trying to kill Lexi and why. So many secrets and questions arise throughout the story that I was pulled in the whole time and loved everything!

The Romance: Lexi and Jack are so cute! It takes awhile for Lexi to learn to trust but she does eventually (thankfully!). But as I've said before, Jack is sweet and protective of Lexi and you really feel their love grow and shine throughout the book.

End Thoughts: Absolutely loved it! It was written really well and fun to read. I'd definitely read it again and am definitely reading the next book which I've heard is even better than that first!! 4.5 stars!
