Friday Favorites - 1/31/14

Friday Favorites is where I tell you my favorite read or reads of the week!!

So I'm half-way through Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke. And even though I'm part way through it, it is my favorite read of the week so far. Apparently this book seems to be a hit or miss type of book for a lot of people and I'm more on the hit side(even though some things bother me!). So yeah I'll add it to my list of books I need to review! Don't forget I have a review being posted later today for Lingering Echoes.
P.S. Isn't the cover just amazing???

Summary: You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town… until River West comes along. River rents the guest house behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard.

Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more?

Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery... who makes you want to kiss back.

Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.

Blending faded decadence and the thrilling dread of gothic horror, April Genevieve Tucholke weaves a dreamy, twisting contemporary romance, as gorgeously told as it is terrifying—a debut to watch.

Monday Recs

So Monday Recs (Recommendations) is when I recommend a book or series to you...

So hopefully all y'all saw my post about books I was going to get this week from yesterday, but if not that's okay, one of the books I'm getting is from the series I'm going to recommend today!!

The series is the Under the Never Sky Trilogy by Veronica Rossi and I really loved the first two books and if you ever read them I hope you do too!!!

Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky #1)
Summary: WORLDS KEPT THEM APART.

DESTINY BROUGHT THEM TOGETHER.

Aria has lived her whole life in the protected dome of Reverie. Her entire world confined to its spaces, she's never thought to dream of what lies beyond its doors. So when her mother goes missing, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland long enough to find her are slim.

Then Aria meets an outsider named Perry. He's searching for someone too. He's also wild - a savage - but might be her best hope at staying alive.

If they can survive, they are each other's best hope for finding answers.

Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2)

Summary: It's been months since Aria learned of her mother's death.

Months since Perry became Blood Lord of the Tides, and months since Aria last saw him.

Now Aria and Perry are about to be reunited. It's a moment they've been longing for with countless expectations. And it's a moment that lives up to all of them. At least, at first.

Then it slips away. The Tides don't take kindly to former Dwellers like Aria. And the tribe is swirling out of Perry's control. With the Aether storms worsening every day, the only remaining hope for peace and safety is the Still Blue. But does this haven truly exist?

Threatened by false friends and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night?

In this second book in her spellbinding Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi combines fantasy and sci-fi elements to create a captivating adventure-and a love story as perilous as it is unforgettable.

Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky #2)
Summary: The earth-shattering conclusion to Veronica Rossi's "masterpiece" Under the Never Sky trilogy and sequel to the New York Times bestsellingThrough the Ever Night (Examiner.com).

Their love and their leadership have been tested. Now it's time for Perry and Aria to unite the Dwellers and the Outsiders in one last desperate attempt to bring balance to their world.

The race to the Still Blue has reached a stalemate. Aria and Perry are determined to find this last safe-haven from the Aether storms before Sable and Hess do-and they are just as determined to stay together.

Meanwhile, time is running out to rescue Cinder, who was abducted by Hess and Sable for his unique abilities. And when Roar returns to camp, he is so furious with Perry that he won't even look at him, and Perry begins to feel like they have already lost.

Out of options, Perry and Aria assemble a team to mount an impossible rescue mission-because Cinder isn't just the key to unlocking the Still Blue and their only hope for survival, he's also their friend. And in a dying world, the bonds between people are what matter most.

In this final book in her stunning Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi raises the stakes to their absolute limit and brings her epic love story to an unforgettable close.

Okay Monday's will be now be for Monday Recommendations...so Monday Rec. for short or maybe Monday Wreck just for the fun of fit??yeah I'll call it that but back to my point, Monday Wreck will just feature a book or series that I recommend and more often than not love!! so yepp there you go!!

           1. Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky #3) by Veronica Rossi

2.  Infinite ( Newsoul#3) by Jodi Meadows

Summary: DESTRUCTION
The Year of Souls begins with an earthquake—an alarming rumble from deep within the earth—and it’s only the first of greater dangers to come. The Range caldera is preparing to erupt. Ana knows that as Soul Night approaches, everything near Heart will be at risk.

FLIGHT
Ana’s exile is frightening, but it may also be fortuitous, especially if she can convince her friends to flee Heart and Range with her. They’ll go north, seeking answers and allies to stop Janan’s ascension. And with any luck, the newsouls will be safe from harm’s reach.

CHOICE
The oldsouls might have forgotten the choice they made to give themselves limitless lifetimes, but Ana knows the true cost of reincarnation. What she doesn’t know is whether she’ll have the chance to finish this one sweet life with Sam, especially if she returns to Heart to stop Janan once and for all.

With gorgeous romance and thrilling action, the final book in the Incarnate trilogy offers a brilliant conclusion to the compelling questions of this fascinating world, where one new girl is the key to the lives of millions.

3.  Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Summary: Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.

AND FINALLY!!!

4. Alienated by Melissa Landers

Summary: Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. ARC Review: Forced Autonomy by Lila Felix

Summary: THIS IS A NOVELLA SERIES
The United States has collapsed. Those citizens who are left are in one of two classes. One: Citizens who have undergone forced lobotomies, as mandated by the United Nations. Two: Those who fight against their tyranny.
Petra Kingsley falls under both classes. She falls in line with the drones, pretending her procedure worked. She’s existed among their ranks, hiding in plain sight, being worked to the bone and starved almost to death.
Lawson is a bounty hunter of sorts. His target isn’t the guilty, it’s those who are lost in the folds of a broken society.
When he spots Petra working in the masses, he stops at nothing to help her escape.
But he has no idea who exactly he’s helping—and who will now be hunting them both?

Oh where to start?? Hmm I guess I can start by saying that it was wonderful! The characters, the plot, the setting - it was all laid down. Now let me also say that this is a novella series so think of it as a book cut into parts and those parts get released individually (in order of course) so that's what this was - it was only the beginning of the story but it was perfect and now I'm really excited for the story to continue!

Okay so the main characters are Petra and Lawson (Law for short) and the action starts from the first chapter on. Lawson finds people like Petra who have undergone the lobotomies, but it never worked on them - meaning they weren't mindless robots. So Law finds Petra and brings her to where other people who are like her or are other humans who escaped lobotomies. When they back to the camp with the others, you get more background as to had happens and what is happening. You also discover a secret about Petra and I could tell that it is going to play a role in the story and which was even more confirmed when I get to the end and then BAM! cliffhanger! And I definitely didn't see it coming cause really how are supposed to know that friends are actually the enemy?!?! But anyways I also wanted to touch on the romance between Petra and Lawson, okay? Okay they are cute and I tend to think that every couple in every book is cute and adorable, but seriously they are! Lawson was always making sure that Petra was taken care of and he would take care of her and, and it's just adorable! When the end had come, I was like "Now that's love right there!" and "I didn't see that coming" and "Well crap, I need the next part!"

So yeah Forced Autonomy was amazing and I can't wait for the next parts to come It was a great quick read, very enjoyable, and just a great start and I highly recommend it and the author as well!
I give it 5/5 stars!!

ARC Review: Wide Open by Shelly Crane

Summary: Milo is trouble.

He lives it, breathes it. He embraces anything that numbs and takes his mind somewhere else, a world where his mother is herself and not just a shell, and his brother didn't almost kill her, severing any relationship they had. But more importantly, Milo drowns out the guilt for leaving his mother and not being able to forgive his brother. He drowns his pride and moves on to another girl and another party, pretending that life isn't moving on around him and he's stuck in the same place. He's stuck in the past and doesn't know how to let go.

Maya is trouble.

She's done the party scene and has had her fair share of close calls and handcuffs. Not the kinky kind. She's so over it all and fought like hell for that life to let go so she could move on. She now works as a teen counselor. Her life is better, but her life is empty. She has no one but her brother in the whole world left and he's sick with a disease that no medicine can cure.

When they meet, a romance that scares them both emerges, but the love you fight for is the love that can mend bridges, heal scars, and open closed hearts. They'll need each other, they'll want each other, they'll have each other.

But will it all come too late?

I love Shelly Crane's books. She can always make the characters seem real and there. She can pull you into the story and make it feel as if you are there the whole time, going through what the characters are going through. And in Wide Open she does just that and doesn't disappoint. Hopefully you read the summary, but I'll say it again - the story is in two points of view, alternating between Milo and Maya. Now Milo's and Maya's story is definitely different than most characters, yes they both had rough lives and met each other after trying to get back to being better, but their background stories are unique and if you've read Wide Awake you already had a taste of Milo's story, but not Maya's. With Maya, whenever I learned something about her past, I almost wanted to cry cause it's really heartbreaking. The two are both really well developed characters and I love how strong both characters are.

Onto to romance…Milo and Maya are perfect for each other. Milo is always saying how he'll be there for Maya to catch her if she's falls (not literally speaking). He also says he'll chase her no matter what and it's so sweet. Milo will even bring chinese food to Maya all the time cause it's her favorite and his and they always like to read the fortune cookies they get, and the two of them are just soooo sweet! But they also have tons of challenges to overcome and it's not all easy. But in the end they do get through them and overall the story was amazing, well written, heartbreaking, sweet, funny, adorable, thoughtful, and again still amazing! I really loved the first book and I really loved this one too! 5/5  fortune cookies!!

Updates and Stuff!!

Friday Favorites - 1/24/14

Friday Favorites is where I just tell you guys what my favorite read or reads of the week were!!

So I received an ARC of The Deep End of the Sea by Heather Lyons and this book was AMAZING!! I'll have a review for it in February for the Blog Tour for the book but in the meantime it was my favorite book this week and already a favorite of mine!! I seriously recommend it when it comes out!!

Comes out Feb. 13th 2014!!

Summary: What if all the legends you’ve learned were wrong?

Brutally attacked by one god and unfairly cursed by another she faithfully served, Medusa has spent the last two thousand years living out her punishment on an enchanted isle in the Aegean Sea. A far cry from the monster legends depict, she’s spent her time educating herself, gardening, and desperately trying to frighten away adventure seekers who occasionally end up, much to her dismay, as statues when they manage to catch her off guard. As time marches on without her, Medusa wishes for nothing more than to be given a second chance at a life stolen away at far too young an age.

But then comes a day when Hermes, one of the few friends she still has and the only deity she trusts, petitions the rest of the gods and goddesses to reverse the curse. Thus begins a journey toward healing and redemption, of reclaiming a life after tragedy, and of just how powerful friendship and love can be—because sometimes, you have to sink in the deep end of the sea before you can rise back up again.

"What do you want me to do, command them?"
"No, but there has to be something." She looked so desperate for her friend to be happy, so I decide to do something wild. I suddenly shouted, "Oh my God, Rev is bleeding!" Every eye landed on him, including Martha's, which was convenient since he was already eye stalking her from across the room. Echo smiled as everyone in the room watched them clasp their chests in knowing. I chuckled a little and Echo grinned from ear to ear at me. I tipped my chin at my mate, "Nailed it."

Friday Favorites

Friday Favorites is where I just tell you guys what my favorite read or reads of the week were!!

This week I had two favorite books...one is The Summer I Became a Nerd by Leah Rae Miller and the other is The Fault in our Stars by John Greene (which I used as my teaser tuesday post)!! I also wanted to add another book that I read two weeks ago cause I really loved it too, and it is called The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window by Kirsty Moseley.

Summary: On the outside, seventeen-year-old Madelyne Summers looks like your typical blond cheerleader—perky, popular, and dating the star quarterback. But inside, Maddie spends more time agonizing over what will happen in the next issue of her favorite comic book than planning pep rallies with her squad. That she’s a nerd hiding in a popular girl's body isn’t just unknown, it's anti-known. And she needs to keep it that way.

Summer is the only time Maddie lets her real self out to play, but when she slips up and the adorkable guy behind the local comic shop’s counter uncovers her secret, she’s busted. Before she can shake a pom-pom, Maddie’s whisked into Logan’s world of comic conventions, live-action role-playing, and first-person-shooter video games. And she loves it. But the more she denies who she really is, the deeper her lies become…and the more she risks losing Logan forever.

Summary: Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

Summary: Amber Walker and her older brother, Jake, have an abusive father. One night her brother's best friend, Liam, sees her crying and climbs through her bedroom window to comfort her. That one action sparks a love/hate relationship that spans over the next eight years. Liam is now a confident, flirty player who has never had a girlfriend before. Amber is still emotionally scarred from the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father. Together they make an unlikely pair. Their relationship has always been a rocky one, but what happens when Amber starts to view her brother's best friend a little differently? And how will her brother, who has always been a little overprotective, react when he finds out that the pair are growing closer? Find out in The Boy Who Sneaks In My Bedroom Window.

Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Sooo I read The Fault in our Stars yesterday and it is AMAZING!! I love it and I cried somewhere around 5 different times but I love it anyways and it's just really good. So I'm going to give a teaser from one of my favorite scenes! If you've read it, I hoped you liked it, if you haven't, go read it!!

"May I see you again?" he asked. There was an endearing nervousness in hie voice.
I smiled. "Sure."
"Tomorrow?" he asked.
"Patience, grasshopper," I counseled. "You don't want to seem overeager."
"Right, that's why I said tomorrow," he said. "I want to see you again tonight. But I'm willing to wait all night and much of tomorrow." I rolled my eyes "I'm serious," he said.
"You don't even know me," I said. I grabbed the book from the center console. "How about I call you when I finish this?"
"But you don't even have my phone number," he said.
"I strongly suspect you wrote it in the book."
He broke out into that goofy smile. "And you say we don't know each other."

Yepp the book is so cute and adorable and completely and utterly a heartbreaker as well!!Happy Reading!
